Very satisfied customer By Jek Suen Lee I wanted a trouble-free universal remote to replace the remotes for my HD cable-box, Samsung LED TV, LG Bluray player and Sony Amp. Once I had all the model numbers, I used the ‘test-drive’ application on the Logitech website to confirm that Logitech had all my equipment in their database.

Simplify your AV system for less! By T. BOREK This device has simplified our modest home theater setup and reduced family room clutter. I chose this model over the 650 and 700 because I didn’t feel like paying an extra $20 or more for a color screen and rechargeable batteries. I recommend the product.
PROS: * Works as advertised, providing one-touch access to most frequently used audio-video activities. * Remote feels good in hand. * After two weeks of use, solid build quality; feels substantial. * Backlit buttons! * Harmony software from Logitech is easy to use, opening up seemingly infinite possibilities to customize the buttons on your remote so that they make sense to YOU (and your family), not having to settle for an egineer or marketing manager’s word and ergonomics preference. After setting up your activities — which for most people won’t take more than 30 minutes — you can start tweaking the Harmony 600 til your heart’s content by deciding not only which physical button control’s what function, but you can assign frequently used functions to the “soft buttons” on the LCD. * Excellent troubleshooter in the software, which works with the Logitech website. Easy to access support.
CONS: * (Minor): To get the most from this remote, you need to think in terms of Activities (Watch TV, Listen to Music, Watch Movie, etc.) and Devices (your individual A/V components), which are the two modes under which all the buttons on the remote work. For me, this mental approach came naturally, but it took a bit of explaining to my wife, who is a college graduate and attorney. Having said that, labeling might have room for improvement. * (Minor) If you turn on a controlled device manually without using the remote, the remote is thrown off and you need to use the Help function to get the remote in sync with chosen activity. I try to just use the remote every time. * My brand-new 46-inch Magnavox LCD TV would not select the appropriate input for any of the activities I programmed into the remote. After speaking to tier-1 phone support twice and spending several hours troubleshooting on my own, my case was elevated to tier-2 phone support. The tier-2 agent I spoke to solved my problem in less than two minutes on his end, requiring me only to update my remote from the web and test it out. I am annoyed that such a simple solution wasn’t offered earlier in the troubleshooting process. Knowing that Logitech’s database of supported devices and command sets is refined with user feedback from their experiences with new devices as they come to market, I don’t mind what I went through so much because I believe other Harmony owners using my model of TV from now on will have proper input switching commands from the start. Bottom line, be prepared for snags if using any Harmony remote with a newly launched product, as Logitech’s software developers may not have had time to perfect the code for your product.
