Ham And Eggs

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the firstborn publication of Green Eggs and Ham, we’re making available—for a fixed time only—a particular foil-covered Party Edition at the regular-edition price of $8.99. This highly collectible edition of the beloved Seuss classic (the story of Sam-I-Am’s determined venture to convince another Seussian reputation to eat a plate of green eggs and ham) makes a perfective gift that will be cherished by young and old alike.

ReviewThis timeless Dr. Seuss classic was introductory published in 1960, and has been delighting readers ever since. Sam-I-am is as persistent as a telemarketer, altering as some variables as possible in the hopes of convincing the nameless skeptic that green eggs and ham are a delicacy to be savored. He tries each manner of formally presenting something with this “nouveau cuisine”–in a house, with a mouse, in a box, with a fox, with a goat, on a boat–to no avail. Then finally, finally the doubter caves under the vast pressure exerted by the tireless Sam-I-am. And guess what? Well, you in all likelihood know what happens, but even after reading Green Eggs and Ham the thousandth time, the climactic realization that green eggs and ham are “so good, so good, you see” is still a rush. As usual, kids will love Dr. Seuss’s wacky rhymes and whimsical illustrations–and this time, they might even be so moved as to in the end take a taste of their broccoli. (Ages 4 to 8)

Review”Limited vocabulary but limitless a feeling of excitement of illustration.”–School Library Journal.

5A outstanding pre-reading tool
By A
As a certified elementary school teacher and practicing preschool teacher (3-year-olds), I highly commend this book! There isn’t a day when I don’t listen “Ms. Molly, read ‘Sam-I-Am!’” My poor copy of “Green Eggs and Ham” is tattered, torn, missing pages and is in the routine of losing it is cover! When I read it, the children follow along and are competent to recall the rhyming words when I measuredly skip them (a skill which ordinarily surfaces at a later age.)

When we have free time in the classroom, there is a crazy dash to the bookshelf to fetch “Green Eggs and Ham.” I sit out of sight while the children quietly sit down with “Green Eggs and Ham” and watch them turn the pages and “read” the story. They recognise what lines belong to which page by “reading” the pictures. This is one of the earliest and most positive signs of reading readiness. Of course the children aren’t “reading” the words, but they are getting conscious of letters as symbols for sounds. I ofttimes listen them mimicking my galore interpretations of the book (some of which get rather enthusiastic!) and other children gather round the “reader” to listen the story, now and again helping out! The gains they are reaping from this story alone marks the beginning of an gratifying journeying through the numerous facets of language development (reading, comprehension, phonics, rhyming, speaking, listening, and interpretation.)

Not only is the book full of fun phrases, fantasic illustrations, lively characters and poignant messages, but likewise is a outstanding tool for learning in regards to the basi processes of reading and recognizing written language. In later years, “Green Eggs and Ham” and other books as endearing (whether the children will realize it or not) may lead to a love of books and reading which may support them succeed in school.

I have no doubt that my students will forget who “Ms. Molly” is in their teenage years and beyond, but they will ALWAYS hold in their hea! rts a particular memory that is “Green Eggs and Ham.”

1Too galore flaps – buy the general version
By LP
This book has too a great deal of little flaps and is annoying. Buy the regular version, not this one with assorted tiny flaps on each page, which you have to open to read the text.

5NOT ENOUGH STARS FOR THIS ONE!
By Sandra D. Peters
This book has been around for such a very long time and it is still going strong. I may do not forget reading this book to my oldest daughter when she was three or four years old, and the book was read to her so some times that she could in the long run repeat back each word to me. My daughter is now 36 years old and her daughter is 12. Both may still recite all the words without the book. Over the years, the attentiongetting words will eternally stay with you.

Aside from the simple words, the book portrays a very essential message – do not be afraid to try new things. As a parent and counsellor, I may attest to the fact that message may be one of life’s greatest learning experiences not only for children but for adults as well. We never know what we may accomplish or what we may achieve until we try. In addition, a heap of things are not always what they seem. If you have never read a Dr. Seuss book, you have no idea of what you or your children are missing. Of all the Seuss books, this is an all-time favourite.
