 70+ Years of Ups and Downs With No Regrets

Sometimes autobiographies of stars are far less impressive then the role that they play. However, I found “Eighty Is Not Enough: One Man’s Journey Through American Entertainment” by Dick Van Patten to be dissimilar from the normal star’s autobiography.
This is a arousing and attention holding story in regards to all the widely known and esteemed people Dick Van Patten knew and worked with. It ought to have been tempting for Van Patten to name drop, but he wisely warded off going in that direction. Instead he added depth and interest to humans whose names we all recognise but don’t have a close and and personal kinship like Van Patten enjoys. This adds value and interest to Van Patten’s life story that comprises of 70 plus years of ups and downs. From vaudeville, to movies to television and through one marriage (unusual in Hollywood at any time), Van Patten managed to make his life a success in spite of the galore ups and downs.
It is said that life is what you make of it. “Eighty Is Not Enough” is proof of this adage, and in spite of it is cutesy title, it was an interesting and gratifying read.

Great Biography By A Nice Guy And A Hell Of A Poker Player

First of all there’s a whole lot more than five stars in this book. He may not be debatable or a media darling, but Dick Van Patten has been in show business a long, long time and has known and worked with more celebrities than you may count. I learned a large total of things I didn’t recognise in regards to stars from bygone eras and up to today’s crop. He tells his tale well and with a gentleman’s aplomb. A Classy Bio well worth the investment in sheer amusement value alone. You’ll also learn all in regards to his family and he and his sister’s (the great Joyce Van Patten) kinship over the years. I highly commend this one for any and all sons and daughters of Hollywood out there. His poker games are the stuff legends are made of, but you’ll have to buy the book to find out what I’m talking about.

Warm, lively, chatty and well written

Warm, chatty and friendly, actor Dick Van Patten tells his life story in his book. Van Patten started out in theater, moved onto radio and later TV where is was best known as the father in Eight is Enough. Van Patten worked with a great deal of well known theater legends including Ethel Barrymore.
For a nostalgic trip down memory lane be sure to read this book. Van Patten offers the reader a well written history of American entertainment.
