The hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30. Unfortunately, it only takes one storm to cause a tragedy. People need to create family disaster plans and compile kits with necessary furnishes to be prepared. Your family will have to develop a plan and recognise how to stay safe in a hurricane. Educate yourself on the scale rating of Hurricanes. They are ranked on a scale from 1-5 depending on the winds. Most importantly, prepare your family. Discuss what you will have to do when a hurricane comes onto land and where you might go in the event of an evacuation. Don’t forget when it comes to your pets. Identify a person in another state or city to serve as a point of contact in case family members are separated.
Before a Hurricane forms, be sure to prepare an emergency evacuation kit. The kit will have to be in an effortlessly transportable container and stored in a safe place. It will have to include non-perishable foods and water; a radio and flashlights with batteries; matches; a basi aid kit with bandages, tape, scissors, and medications; a manual may opener; an emergency phone list; hygiene and personal care items; and cash or credit card. Make sure your householders and flood policies are up to date. It is likewise a good idea to take video or photographs of the furnishings and items inside of your home to have with you in the event of a loss.
Once the storm has been forecasted in your area, stay tuned to the weather channel for up to date information. Board windows and brace the doors on your home. Fill your cars with gas and make sure you have a great deal of cash on hand. Move boats, trailers and extra vehicles, if time permits, out of the path of the storm. Secure outdoor furniture, awnings, rubbish cans and other items that may become projectile in violent winds. Tape over and seal all soffit vents and roof vents to prevent wind-driven rain from splashing into the vents and flooding the attic.
You must be prepared to evacuate. If you are directed by local authorities to do so, be sure to follow their instructions. Evacuate if you live in a mobile home, temporary structure, or a high-rise building. If you live on the coast, near water, or on a floodplain, you will more than likely be ordered to evacuate. If you are unable to evacuate, go to a safe room and stay indoors for the duration of the hurricane, away from windows and glass doors. When a hurricane has come and gone:
* Stay away from dangling or downed power lines and accumulated pools of water
* Boil water before drinking it
* Discard feed that may have spoiled
* Make emergency repairs to prevent further harm to your property if possible. Save receipts.

Rough First Edition By Elizabeth S. Giving this book two stars was a gift. I do grasp how the author begun writing the book and read the apologies of the editor — but seriously? This book will have to not have been published in it is current format. I don’t want to admonish the author, but unless a great deal of real editing is done, I would hesitate calling this mess a book. That being said, there are galore fresh ideas and interesting scenarios. If the author does hire a real editor, I would consider reading “Volume 2″ when it comes out.
Addendum 3/23/2010
I ought to add that the author has been very open to constructive criticism – I find that highly refreshing. The book has been re-released after a new editor reviewed it. I will surely buy Volume Two when it is freed this summer!

A resourcefulness of one possible future By David Z. Moss Volume 1 hypothesizes a possible future after an extended economic crash in the United States. Things tardily get worse for our protagonist Gardener and the rest of the country, but Gardener does a better occupation than most at adjusting to changed circumstances. Effectively he embraces violence and sets himself up as a survivor and future warlord in an progressively Mad Max style universe. OK, I confess I got hooked on the story after reading Volume 1 and am now in the middle of Volume III (which you may read right now on Nova’s website). So I’m projecting a bit. But just a bit. In Volume 1 the future is not rather post-apocalyptic even though it is getting there, and you may see and believe in the devolution of society happening through Gardener’s observations.
I don’t inevitably see the future heading this way myself, but American Apocalypse is a unfathomed resourcefulness of a potential future that can not be lightly dismissed. And if it does come to pass (or anything like it) you’ll be grateful for having seen a glimpse from Nova before getting there yourself. Perhaps more importantly, the book is an magnificent page turner and a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
If I could I’d give the book four and a half stars. The downgrade comes from the relative lack of editing and the fact that the stream of consciousness style leaves you marveling a bit in regards to some things. (Why for example do none of the characters get any news from the radio and learn regarding what is happening outside of the US?) But since I can’t and it’s either four or five, I’ll go with five stars because it makes you think in a way that few other books can.

Keep browsing for a better book/series By Eric Davis After reading the reviews, and reading this (and book 2), I was disappointed. Yes, it has a “end of days” theme notwithstanding everything happens so effortlessly and so lucky for the characters. I agree with other reviews that the editing is horrid if not non-existant.
Book 2 is a little better, but not much. It’s disturbing how things take place so without apparent effort and lucky for the characters. “He grabbed a bottle of water…” Where or how did he get such an indispensable item so easily? There was a gas shortage everywhere, but not for them apparently. The main reputation never liked guns but all of a sudden he becomes a marksman.
The series leaves a lot of substantial details how hard will work to aquire/build/ necessary items for the duration of EOD. This is a “everything falls into their lap” EOD series.
And the reputation introduced near the end of book two is just silly. Really? (I won’t ruin the story for those thinking of buying book two)
Call me old fashioned, but I could do without the foul language and NUMEROUS scenes where the reputation just so happens to stumble upon some guy or a group of guys molesting a boy, a woman or a girl. I think the author has personal issues with the topic. For this reason I had to go from three stars down to two stars.
